5 Days Hong Kong and Macau Budget Travel

Working your ass five-days straight in a week and having a graveyard schedule is too exhausting! It makes me want to sleep and hibernate forever. (Too bad, forever doesn't exist 😌😌) Well, its Summer Season on our country and I'm stuck in front of my desktop doing who-knows-what. 😪😳😌 It's the same time where Cebu Pacific Airlines is having their season sale.

Basically, me and my friend was looking for available seats going to Palawan but instead we ended up booking flight to Hong Kong. 😂😁 Its quite funny (and it's a different story) 😋😅

So let me share you our "biglaang out of the country getaway" and our detailed itinerary for our Hong Kong and Macau tour for 5 days and 5 nights. 🙌

Here's how it goes. 😁😁

Get a passport first and booked if there's a promo airplane ticket! 😂

If you are on a budget trip, then it's good to wait for a promo. Choose Cebu Pacific Air or Air Asia (it's cheaper than the other airlines) you can subscribe on their page so you can see if there's a promo on the day/month you want. The lowest fare if there's a promo is usually $60 or P3,000 roundtrip.
PS: Usually, I buy a ticket months ahead our expected travel date, but I got this one less than a month.

Pack your things! 😍

Once you booked your flight, of course it's time to pack your "OOTD" 😂 but make sure don't put so much in your luggage.

You're now flying!! 😂 but don't be too excited.

Pray and try to rest or sleep so you can have energy once you landed in Hong Kong. 😂 Manila to HK is 2 hours travel time. ✈️ You can read and study basic mandarin words while you are waiting to arrive.

This is it!! Welcome to Hong Kong!!! 😂😂

Once you get off from the plane, you will go straight to the immigration and baggage claim area. There's no interview in immigration. They (did not) will just stamp your passport, take picture and get your fingerprints. After that, you can get your luggage.

Have your Hong Kong dollars! 💸💵💵💵💵

Just exhange small amount that you can use for a day then I suggest that you exhange your money in Kowloon or Tsim Sham Tsui it's higher there.
PS: 1 HKD = 6.49 PHP
**usually my pocket money is 10k-15k for one week.(it depends on your itineraries)

Buy an Octopus card
You can buy it in a convenience store inside the Hong Kong International Airport. You can use this for transportation (riding the train/subway and bus), shopping, convenience store and eating in restaurants and fast food chains when you are in Hong Kong.
PS: We bought our card online for 98 HKD or 641PHP and get it at the airport.

It's now time to go to!

You can choose whether you will ride a train or bus going to your hotel or guesthouse. Once you arrived in Hong Kong International Airport, you need to ride the Airport Express going to Tsing Yi station. Then you will transfer to different subway line it depends where is the nearest station of your hotel or guesthouse. For us, we need to go to Mongkok since our guesthouse is located at that place. 😋😅

PS: If you will ride a bus, make sure that you know the bus number. You can ask from your hotel or guesthouse the bus station near them. I prefer to use bus because i will not transfer anymore to other lines unlike subway. I can drop off to the bus stop near my guesthouse. For a change, this time we rode the subway going to our place. 😂😂

You're now in your second home 😂

You can choose if you want to stay in hotel or guesthouse. Since I am on a budget trip, so I usually stay in a guesthouse. I don't have a picture of my guesthouse but you can check online for cheap accommodation.

PS: Booked your hotel or guesthouse 1 month or 2 weeks before your arrival, sometimes it's more cheaper 😂 but if you see a promo and it fits your budget then grab it!

This is it!!! You can now explore Hong Kong then after that you can visit Macao 😍

But for us, we explore Macao first and we spent the rest of our stay exploring Hong Kong. (Please see Planned Itinerary 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻)

I initially made an outline of our 5-day trip but we ended up NOT doing everything on the dot. On my previous trips, I learned that rigidly following an itinerary just screws up the whole experience; I oftentimes end up arguing on the road or woke up late. So, this time around, I made a lot of room for spontaneity and adjustments. See our planned itinerary below:

Day 0 - ARRIVAL Day

D-day!! We arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport 3 hours before our flight. We make sure that we won't be rushing once we arrived.

PS: We paid 1200 PHP fro excess baggage!! 😫😫😤😤 MEH~

TIPS: Make sure to only bring less than or exact 7kgs if you don't have add-on baggage. 😬

When we arrived at the Hong Kong International Airport and passing the immigration, we immediately get our iVenture card and Octopus card at the A13 counter. We then commuted to our AirBnb in Mongkok via the subway.

The iVenture Card we bought online
TIPS: It's more convenient that you buy your Octopus card online for less hassle. If not, buy your Octopus card as soon as you arrive at the airport and load it up at 7-Eleven or any reloading machines at the nearest subway station.
Save this MTR system map of Hong Kong beforehand.

How to get to our AirBnb in Mongkok: From Hong Kong International Airport, take the Airport Express to Tsing Yi Station, transfer to Tung Chung Line to Lai King Station. From Lai King Station transfer to Tsuen Wan Line and drop at Mongkok Station. Exit at B3 and walk 4-5mins to Sai Yeung Choi Street South.

Day 1 - Macau Tour

On our way to China-Macao Ferry Terminal, we passed by Kowloon Park.

Inside Kowloon Park located Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Center

We have trouble finding the China-Macao Ferry Terminal at first, but eventually we manage to locate it 15mins before departure. 😪😪 Once arrived, we get our ticket at the counter and went straight to immigration.

Finally, we found Lifung Tower.😌

TIPS: Booked your ferry ticket ahead of time to avoid queuing in line. Also, make sure that you have Google Maps on your travel. It will help a lot. 😊😉

How to get there: From Sai Yeung Choi Street walk 5mins to Mongkok Station. From there transfer to Tsuen Wan Line to Tsim Sham Tsui Station. Tke A1 Exit and walk 9mins to Lifung Tower.

China-Macau Ferry Terminal
We reached Macau at exactly 10AM, once arrived we go straight to claim our Macau Tour Voucher at the Arrival Hall, Room No. 1026, TKW Travel & Tours Ltd. From exit forward looking to left hand side.

Though touristy, we still had a great time exploring this colorful neighborhood.

TIPS: Don’t follow the crowd. Walk your way through the narrow alleys and explore the village on your own. You might find some Instagram-worthy corners that are often overlooked by tourists.

Museu de Macau
How to get there: If you are going straight to Ruins of St Paul and maybe tight on time, the best is to take a taxi there. They will drop you off at the back side of the Ruins. It is quite close from the ferry terminal. Taxi fare is not that high. Maybe MOP 30. The common/popular method is to take public bus or hotel casino shuttles to places such as Grand Lisboa or Sintra, then walk to Senado Square (10 minutes). If you take a public bus, you can alight near Senado Square. But from there, it still takes 10 to 15 minutes to walk to the Ruins. Longer if the street is crowded with people. Using that method can take about an hour. We have our tour bus when we went there so we didn't have a problem transferring to one place to another.

Mount Fortress

Ruins of St. Paul

Mount Fortress and Ruins of St. Paul is just beside the Museum so you will not have a hard time finding it. 😄😄

Na Tcha Temple

Li Jing Xuan Restaurant

We have our lunch at Li Jing Xuan Restaurant located at Beverly Hills Macau courtesy of TKW Tours💂.

Macau Tower

View from 58th floor of Macau Tower

Since our day tour is finally done, we decided to move to a different attraction that is not covered by the tour. So, off we went to Broadway Macau to claim our VIVA La Broadway ticket and meal voucher.

BROADWAY MACAU

Once arrived, we immediately went straight to watch VIVA La Broadway. Show starts at 4pm daily.

How o get there: From Macau Tower, we ride free hotel bus to Studio City then transfer to hotel bus going to Galaxy. From Galaxy, walk 9-10mins to Broadway Macau.

We also got our Privilege card and a free cable while exploring Broadway Macau. 😁

After the show, we have our early dinner at KFood Express. 😃😃

There are a lot of variety of food that you can try at Macau but since we're all a KPop fanatics we prefer eating at a Korean Restaurant. 😁😁

Though it was getting darker and colder, we still enjoyed our short exploration in this city! Macau is colorful and lively during the night! One thing that you don't have to miss in Macau is its nightlife!

Venetian Place

Galaxy

Parisian

Little Eiffel Tower Macau

Studio City

Its breathe taking when you saw it at night. 😰😰

One day was NOT enough to explore Macau. We regretted spending so little time in this charming coastal city. We would definitely go back to do everything on this list of fun things to do in and around Macau!

DAY 2 - Cable Car ride to Lantau Island

Ngong Ping 360 main terminus is located at Tung Chung Town Centre, a shopping mall on Lantau Island. The upper Ngong Ping 360 terminus is located at Ngong Ping Village and much harder to reach. Almost everyone takes the cable car from Tung Chung Town Centre.

TIPS: The easiest way to reach the Ngong Ping Tung Chung Terminal is via MTR. The Tung Chung line (Orange) runs from both Hong Kong Station and Kowloon station straight to Tung Chung Town Centre. Journey time from Central (Hong Kong Station) is around thirty minutes. Once at Tung Chung, the Cable Car Terminal can be reached through exit B of the MTR.

How to get to Cable Car Terminal: From Mongkok take the subway to Tsuen Wan Station and drop at Lai King Station. From there transfer to Tung Chung Station and drop at the last station. Just follow the crowd to exit Tung Chung Station and you will see the signage for Cable Car Terminal. Everything is well-marked, you will not get lost.

Upon arriving at Cable Car Terminal, we immediately get our round trip ticket for Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car.

You can now explore Lantau Island!! 😁😁

You can see at the back the Big Buddha.
Stairway to Big Buddha

We leave the place at exactly 4pm to go to our next destination.
😁😁

Magical 4D World

How to get to Magical World: From Tung Chung Station, take Hong Kong Line and drop off at Nam Cheong Station. Transfer to West Rail Station and drop at East Tsim Sham Tsui. Exit N3 and walk 6-7mins to 96 Granville Road. Look for Hilton Tower.

Noah's Ark Hong Kong

Sky100 Observation Desk

By this time, I was already dog tired from all the walking, but we still squeezed Sky100 to our itinerary for today. Upon reaching the top, we were really fascinated by the night view of the city!

How to get to Sky 100: From Magical World, take the subway to Tuen Mun and drop at Nam Chgeong. From Nam Cheong transfer to Hong Kong Station and drop off at Kowloon Station. Take Exit C and walk 3-4mins to International Commerce Centre.

Day 3 - Ocean Park Adventure

Its a shady morning and it looks like it will rain at any time. We leave at 7am from Mongkok for the Ocean Park pick up at Holiday Inn located at Tsim Sham Tsui.

How to get to Ocean Park: From Mongkok, take the subway to Central Line and drop at Tsim Sham Tsui Station. Exit at D1 and walk south from Nathan Road and turn right to Mody Rd. Walk 2-3mins to Holiday Inn Golden Mile Hong Kong.

P.S: If you don't have a Ocean Park Transfer, you can go straight to Ocean Park thru MTR. From Mongkok, take the subway to Central Line and drop at Admiralty Station. Transfer to South Island Line and drop at Ocean Park Station.

Peak Tram

How to get to Peak Tram: From Carnarvon Plaza, walk 5-6mins to MTR station and take Exit D2. Take subway to Central Line and drop at Central Station. Take Exit E, head northwest to Chater Rd to Pedder St. Sharp left towards Des Voeux Rd Central. Keep going straight to stay at Des Voeux Rd Central. Use the crosswalk, turn right towards Des Voeux Rd Central. Continue to Queen's Rd Central. Slightly right to Garden Rd, turn left and turn right. You'll arrive at Garden Road Peak Tram Lower Terminus.

TIP: Make sure to booked your ticket online to avoid the long line.

Madam Tussaud

Meet 100 faces of your favorite personalities in one museum! For those who have not visited any of the Madam Tussauds (MT) earlier, this would be a great experience, however if you have already been to MT at some other location, this would not be that fascinating. A lot of Chinese celebrity statues are displayed given the location. Also, you can see a lot of K-Pop stars and international personalities! MT is just below the Peak Tram Station along with Trick Eye Museum.

Trick Eye Museum Hong Kong

Day 4 - Disneyland Hong Kong

Yesterday was wicked, so much fun! We're soaking wet upon reaching home because of the rain, but it didn't stop us from having fun. Today was no different, the weather is still not-so-good and I was no longer in a good shape to explore Hong Kong. Not to mention the muscle cramps from the non-stop walking. But heck, I’m already in Hong Kong. Nothing should stop me from enjoying my trip. “It’s all in the mind!”, I convinced myself. And thank God, I did not give in to the pain because I wouldn’t have seen and experienced all the wonderful things in Hong Kong.

Today we plan to go to Disneyland Resort despite the fact that it's raining hard outside our guesthouse. Well, not even the bad weather can stop us. 😎😎

Here are the highlights of our Disneyland Hong Kong:

PS: Booked your ticket earlier so you will not queue in line for a long time.

We finally made it inside! 😚😚

It's a dream come true for me to be able to see this beautiful place in person! I thought I would be able to see this in Disney Movies only. 😭😭

TOMORROWLAND

IRON MAN EXPERIENCE

One of the attractions that I enjoyed the most! We tried this several times! 😝😝

TOY STORY LAND

CINDERELLA'S CAROUSEL

JUNGLE CRUISE

FINALE: Firework Display

Despite of the heavy rain, this is still the best part of our stay at Hong Kong!

How to get to Disneyland Hong Kong: From Mongkok, take subway to Tsuen Wan Line and drop off at Lai King Station. Transfer to Tung Chung Line and drop at Sunny Bay Station. From there take the train going to Disneyland Resort.

Day 5 - Ladies Market

The good thing about the guesthouse where we were staying is that we can check out anytime. We keep our stuff at the guesthouse so we could still explore more of the city before our flight in the evening.

We stayed in Mongkok for almost 5days and this is the first time we explore this area! We even found a Jollibee franchise! 😳😳

Searching for cheap stuff as pasalubong!

We found a Kumamon Store at the center of Tung Choi St.!

I bought LINE friends keychain for myself. 💝💝 Brown 💘💘 Cony

They sell lots of cute stuff on a very affordable price!

We went back to our guesthouse at around 4pm and packed our things. We checked out from our guesthouse at 6pm and went to take the subway going to Airport.

Goodbye Hong Kong! 😫😫😫 Initially, we wanted to explore Mongkok but we skip it to avoid the hassle on our way to Hong Kong International Airport. I guess, we’ll have more reasons to go back to Hong Kong! 😌😌
